Our Lady’s Church of Pamele

Pamele church shines in all its glory on the right bank of the Scheldt. It is extremely rare for a proud lady to reveal her age. However, exceptions prove the rule. On the outside of the remarkable ambulatory is a bronze plaque with the inscription: "Arnulf van Binche 1234". A reference to the master builder. This imposing building is a magnificent example of Scheldt Gothic, a Romanesque-Gothic transitional style.

Fun fact: Margaret of Parma was baptised in this church in 1522.

Visiting hours: every Saturday and Sunday from 11 May until the end of August from 2 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Extra opening days: 9, 10 and 20 May.

During the exhibition 'Margaret. The Emperor's Daughter between Power and Image' from 21 September to 5 January, organised by the MOU Museum Oudenaarde, you will enjoy contemporary images in Our Lady’s Church of Pamele. Photographer Lieve Blancquaert portrays modern Margaret(h)a's and brings them together in an impressive installation. In our time, who are the Margaret(h)a's? What does Margaret anno 2024 stand for? Do we recognise universal female themes? For admission prices and opening hours, consult the MOU website.
