de Lalaing House

This stately mansion on the Scheldt bears the name of the city governor, Philips de Lalaing, who lived there from 1519 onwards. Both the imposing exterior and the frivolous interior bathe in Rococo style. The 17th-century back facade opens onto an attractive garden with an old, eye-catching Ginkgo Biloba tree. Who knows what secrets these walls would divulge if they could talk, like what happened on the day that Margaret of Parma was born.
