Welcome to MOU Museum Oudenaarde, a small arts city with world renown. MOU is housed in the town hall, Oudenaarde’s pride and joy, and a magnificent example of the richly decorated late Gothic architectural style. The belfry tower of the town hall is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The town hall takes us back five hundred years to the time of Emperor Charles V. It was built around 1530. Not coincidentally, this was the beginning of Oudenaarde’s heyday. We owe this peak to the tapestry industry, which flourished here in the 16th century and employed thousands of people.
In MOU, you will be introduced to a number of splendors woven in and around Oudenaarde.

Today, you can find tapestries from Oudenaarde in many top European collections, and even all over the world. Fortunately, you will also find them in Oudenaarde itself. Moreover, our collection of 43 tapestries, many of which are exhibited in the adjacent cloth hall as well as the town hall, is constantly expanding!

You can also admire our large collection of silver and other fine metalware, mainly from the Golden Age of Netherlandish art—one of the largest in Flanders. Also, don’t forget to browse through the historical and iconic chambers of the town hall.
